Perhaps
we can get a sense of what lies ahead-a paradise or a precipice-by pondering this infamous track America has of redefining
fundamentals. Even more, we can get a sense of how we got to this point by pondering this list, as well. The root of all
this evil lies in our collective flagrancy of the Constitution and the redefinition of our country's foundation.
Many have heard the story that just after the completion and signing of the Constitution,
in reply to a woman's inquiry as to the type of government the Founders had created, Benjamin Franklin said, "A republic,
if you can keep it." Oh how disappointed would be the ever-wise Mr. Franklin. Not only have we failed to keep it, most
don't even know what it is. We have been conditioned to act under the pretense that we live in a democracy and not a republic
governed by the laws mandated in the Constitution - and it has led to the introduction of tyranny in its ugliest forms. If
there's any doubt about this, consider these words from Fisher Ames, architect of the First Amendment: "Democracy pollutes
the morals of the people before it swallows up their freedoms." Sound familiar?
So, why does it matter? Well, our forefathers knew how damaging, demonic, and ultimately debilitating
a full-fledged democracy is...which is why the progressive manipulators have slowly conditioned "We the People"
into believing that we are operating under the principles of democracy. After all, how many times haven't we heard members
of the political elite pounding their chests about "promoting the spread of democracy" in other nations? It seems
harmless enough, but it is nothing more than conferring upon these nations the kiss of death. To further cement the point,
how many times did we hear it debated after the election about whether Obama had received a "mandate" from the American
people to implement his socialistic agenda? If we truly embraced our republican principles, we wouldn't be having these conversations.
The word "democracy" does not appear anywhere in our U.S. Constitution
because we are not a democracy. However, in Article IV, Section 4, of the Constitution, it says, "The United States
shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government..." Democracy has no place in America -
our Founding Fathers knew better.
"A democracy
is nothing more than mob rule, when fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine percent."
- Thomas Jefferson
"Democracy is the most vile
form of government...Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention: have ever been found incompatible
with personal security or rights of property and have in general been short in their lives as they have been violent in their
deaths." - James Madison
"Democracy...while
it lasts is more bloody than aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and
murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide." - John Adams
"[I]ntended, our government should be a Republic, which differs more widely from a Democracy
than a Democracy from a despotism." - Fisher Ames
"A
simple democracy is the devil's own government." - Jedediah Morse, one of the authors of the Bill of Rights
Our military training manuals used to contain the correct definitions of democracy
and republic. The following comes from Training Manual No. 2000-25 published by the War Department, November 30, 1928.
DEMOCRACY:
A
government of the masses.
Authority derived through
mass meeting or any other form of "direct" expression.
Results
in mobocracy.
Attitude toward property is communistic-negating
property rights.
Attitude toward law is that the will
of the majority shall regulate, whether is be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without
restraint or regard to consequences.
Results in demagoguism,
license, agitation, discontent, anarchy.
REPUBLIC:
Authority is derived through the election by the people of public officials best
fitted to represent them.
Attitude toward law is the
administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences.
A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass.
Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy.
Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment, and progress.
Is the "standard form" of government throughout the world.
The War Department training manual went on to state, "Our Constitutional fathers,
familiar with the strength and weakness of both autocracy and democracy, with fixed principles definitely in mind, defined
a representative republican form of government. They ‘made a very marked distinction between a republic and a democracy
and said repeatedly and emphatically that they had founded a republic.'"
The manuals containing these definitions were ordered to be suppressed and destroyed without explanation
by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (surprise, surprise) shortly after the "bank holiday" in 1933. I leave you
to draw your own conclusions on that one.
By 1952, the
U.S. Army via the new War Department Field Manual 21-13, sub-section entitled "The Soldier's Guide" was singing
the praises of Democracy instead of warning against it. This new manual incorrectly stated: "Because the United States
is a Democracy, the majority of the people decide how our Government will be organized and run...."
Everyone has seen the results of democracy:
1. The decline of morality
2.
The decline of individual liberty
3. The demagoguery
of political candidates
4. The license and disregard
for the law that is evidenced daily by government officials
5.
The discontent of the people for the political process
6.
The abuses of federal agencies and bureaucracies against citizens
A
democracy rules by feeling, a very unstable form of government if there ever was one. A republic rules by law, thereby creating
a stable form of government designed to transcend the ages. So, what is the ideal source of law for the American republic?
Noah Webster provides the answer: "Our citizens should early understand that the genuine source of correct Republican
principles is the Bible, particularly the New Testament and the Christian religion." Those of us clinging to our guns
and our Bibles had it right all along, as if there was any doubt.
America
is a republic, NOT a democracy. We must distinguish between the fact that we use a democratic process of voting, not to be
confused with democracy as a form of government. Because it matters...big time.
It was once written that it is not the function of our government to keep the citizen from falling
into error, it is the function of the citizen to keep the government from falling into error. Keep fighting the good fight
and enlightening people to the truth. Elbridge Gerry observed that "the evils we experience flow from the excess of
democracy. The people do not want (that is, do not lack) virtue; but are the dupes of pretended patriots." Americans
are good at heart, many have just been deceived by power-hungry forces. Gerry's words shed immense light to our current predicament
and need to be heeded before it is too late (if it isn't too late already), as do these words: "I pledge allegiance to
the flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands, one nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible, with
liberty and justice for all."
